Reconstructing Fans

Using the time at home due to lockdown, curfew or what else COVID and the politicians force us to do, I tried my dexterity on "hopeless" fans: main reason is, that I would not dare to do it on fans that can be easily restored or that are worth having them restored. But I also wanted to know, what is feasible. The slideshow below gives you a small impression of three reconstructed fans.

Re-Ribboning brisé fans

Re-ribboning brisé fans is a "pain in the ..."
Everybody who tried it will know about it. Now, with the Corona-virus lockdown and subsequently, more time at home, I overcame my reluctance to put my patience on trial and did it. I tried (and did) repair some of my early 19th century brisé fans. As one needs a lot of time as the glue must dry before one can handle the fan again, working from home, with a little table next to it where the soon-to-be-again beauties could dry was useful. Over the last 3 weeks I did 3 fans (where only parts of the ribbon were to be restored) and one is still going on...Here is my experience fo all who want to try it as well!

Fans from 1800 to 1830

Dear Fan Friends,

Using the home time due to the corona crisis, I made a little video of some of my fans from the beginning of the 19th century. These are the small to tiny "imperceptibles" fans of Empire and Biedermeier. They are most often unpretentious but, with a closer look, one finds wonderful details.
Christl Kammer wrote her thesis about them: "Plus ils sont petits, plus ils sont recherchés" (in German). I will try to make some more little videos - subscribe to this blog or to my YouTube channel.

Liebe Fächer-Freunde,
Ich plane, mehrer solcher Videos hier zu veröffentlichen - also "follow me" hier oder auf meinem YouTube Kanal.
